Our Story

It was my first day of class on the Brigham Young University-Idaho campus. I was 19 years old, just a little freshman in college. I was studying biology in hopes of becoming a nurse, or something along those lines. Focused, I made my way to Brother Baker's class, BIO 264. For all of those feeling a little lost, that is code for anatomy and physiology. Though nervous, I was completely ready for this class. I have always had an eagerness to learn. And besides, it was quite possible that there were attractive guys in this class.

I made my way to class and sat down in the back. Although I am a teacher’s pet at heart, I did not want to seem lame sitting in the front rows (at least not on the first day). For that first hour of class, I soon determined that sitting in the back was not so bad after all. From way back there, I had the perfect view of the whole room. I could see what guys looked good (at least from the back of the head) and I even managed to pay attention to some of the lecture. However, at the close of the class, my teacher mentioned that students tend to receive better grades. With that quick note, I determined that next time I would move closer to the front.

Wednesday came around, and it was my third official day of college. And, as you could imagine, it was time for anatomy and physiology again. Remember the words of my professor, I took a seat towards the front. Score! I just happened to sit by a very attractive fellow! Tall, dark, and quite noticeably handsome, I was suddenly enjoying this class even more. He had a sharp haircut and sideburns that other men would die for. To top it all off, he was wearing boots and a pearl-snap. He just had to be a country boy. I was in love. Needless to say, I don’t even remember the rest of class.

Friday morning lab for anatomy was at 7:45 A.M. (an ungodly hour, I must add). Tired, I forced myself out of bed in hopes of having the chance to meet this gorgeous boy from class. I knew the odds were slim, but I had hopes that somehow he was in the same lab section. I arrived there on time, but he was nowhere in sight. Bummer. But then, as class started, a tall boy with nice sideburns walked into class. Late, he did not have a place to sit, so he stood at the far side of my table. Gasp!

Brother Baker began to explain that we would be split into groups for the semester, and that all those who were standing needed to take a place at one of the tables. As if my day could not get any better, this boy chose MY table! He was now going to be part of my group for the WHOLE semester.

I soon learned that his name was Dan. I also learned that he had braces…BIGGEST LET DOWN EVER! Obviously, this guy was young and I was sure that he was going on a mission. A little disappointed, I decided that he could just be my eye candy for the semester. After all, he was really nice to look at. Before leaving, we all exchanged numbers and decided that we would meet up to study, and then everything got interesting.

Naturally, I looked Dan up on Facebook (…okay, maybe I was stalking a little…). Looking through his pictures, I found that that he had served his mission. Some pictures appeared to be from some foreign countries, others not so much. In the pictures, he was not even wearing braces. Totally confused, I determined that he had a twin (or a clone) and left it at that.

As the following Monday rolled around, I looked for Dan after class. Obviously, we had some group work to take care of (how convenient!). I waited to talk to him at the end of class, but he was busy talking to other people. I waited some more, but he just talked more. I knew that he saw me waiting! Annoyed, I decided to leave. Thankfully, Dan texted me shortly after and apologized that he did not have the change to talk with me. I forgave him! We decided that our group needed to meet up and study for that week’s lab. We determined the time and I texted everyone in the group.

The day came to study and Dan and I were the only ones who showed up (thankfully, it stayed that way the whole semester). As we studied, we flirted. As we flirted, I began to learn more about Dan. He was a returned missionary, obviously older than myself. He had served two missions (that explained the confusing mission pictures), and he was from Idaho.

As time unraveled, Dan lost the braces and we continued to study together. Quickly, we became friends. Soon, we turned into lovebirds. We spent every waking moment together, and I just knew that he was the one.

May 24, 2014 Dan asked me to marry him, to which I gladly accepted. And, look at us now! We are happily married and enjoying life. Many things have happened since that Monday morning in BIO 264 to now. Life has been wonderful, and life has been great.
